Keynote Presenter

Associate Professor Tracey Bunda: Chair, Indigenous Knowledges, Koori Institute, Deakin University

Associate Professor Tracey Bunda is an Ngugi/Wakka Wakka woman - a Goori woman from Queensland.  She has an extensive career in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education at universities across Australia.  Associate Professor Bunda will provide teachers with knowledge to assist them to deepen their knowledge of Australia oldest continuous living, rich and diverse cultures and develop knowledge, understanding and strategies for implementing the Australian Curriculum Cross-Curriculum Priority: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures.

  • Associate Professor Bunda- Indigenous Australian Cultures and Histories  A/Prof Bunda Teaching Australian Curriculum CCP: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures- the scope and sequence of the knowledge and understandings and Protocols for working with Communities and Community  Elders
  • Ms Shauna BostockSmith- Shauna is an Australian Aboriginal woman who is descended from Bundjalung country in northern New South Wales.  Shauna is a classroom teacher and has worked as a tutor at the Australian Catholic University in Indigenous Cultures and History.  Shauna will share her story about the research she is conducting into her family history
  • Brian Whap, a Torres Straits Islander who works for Education Queensland will talk about the major differences that he sees between TSI and Aboriginal cultures

  • Educators will be introduced to practical ideas for implementing the CCP by classroom practitioners and curriculum experts. There will be concurrent sessions for those interested in ideas for the early years, primary and secondary levels of schooling.
